For all the courses under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, the medium of instruction is English. It is mandatory for students to pass English Proficiency Test within one year from the date of admission into GNI.Following students are exempted from English Proficiency Test:
Students from English speaking countriesSpecial English coaching, if desired, will be given to students coming from non-English medium, by the English Language Training Center, at each of the colleges where the student is admitted on payment basis
Students can check with respective countries about scholarships/grants. However, if the Government of India or their respective country grants some scholarships under various schemes and students are advised to contact the nearest respective Embassy for necessary information about them. They may also peruse the UNESCO Handbook for Study Abroad that lists some scholarships and the addresses to which applications should be mailed.
GNI or Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad rules do not permit any international student to take up any job part-time or full-time, while being on rolls as a regular student.
Indian customs and practices are different from other countries in many respects and international students are expected to respect them.
University academic year starts in September with the First-year classes commencing 25 September and closing by end of May (Please refer academic calendar of respective programmes).
Annual examinations for year-wise programmes are held in the month of April/May every academic year. The semester examinations are held twice a year, for the odd-semester in November/December and for the even-semesters in April/May. Students have first-term holidays in October/November and summer vacations in June every year.
Hyderabad has a combination of a tropical wet and dry climate that borders on a hot semi-arid climate. The city and adjacent region has a moderate climate during September to February, with a small amount of variation. The monsoon is spread over a period of three months from June to August.
However, Hyderabad has a moderate temperature ranging from 15 to 40 degrees. Light and summer clothing made from natural fabrics like cotton is best for everyday wear. Casual dress is acceptable for most situations and occasions but GNI students have a dress code (3 days a week) according to the respective programme in which they are admitted and which they are expected to wear during their tenure with GNI
